The third essential quality of a servant leader is healing. At first, that may sound scary because you are probably thinking that healing someone sounds impossible. Well, physically it probably is unless you are a doctor. However, as a servant leader you do have the opportunity to help bring emotional healing to others by showing them compassion and concern. This is where the first two servant leader qualities of listening and empathy play a role. When you care about others and desire to see them “made whole” by listening and showing them empathy, it will go a long way in helping them heal emotionally.
Servant leaders have a unique opportunity to significantly impact and influence the lives of others. This opportunity is also an important responsibility, and it is something that should be taken very seriously. By simply listening and showing empathy, a servant leader is able to bring a certain amount of healing to others. Think about how many people go to work every day feeling like no one truly cares about them as a person. You as a servant leader can be a light in that person’s life by taking even a small amount of time out of your day to show them that you care. This is not about trying to be a professional counselor to someone—it’s about compassion. It’s about taking a few moments to impact the life of another person. That’s what servant leaders do.
